MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE (MLD)

MLD is a gentle manual treatment which improves the activity of the lymph vascular system. In lymphedema, it re-routes the lymph flow around the blocked areas into more centrally located healthy lymph vessels which drain into the venous system. MLD is a potent way to activate the lymphatic system, especially when the transport capacity of the lymph vessel is reduced because of prior surgery and/or radiation therapy.

* MLD improves the lymph production.

* MLD increases the influence on smooth musculature of the lymphangions. Slight stimuli (MLD) will increase the frequency of contractions of the lymph vessels.

* MLD improves the lymph circulation. It increases the volume of lymph fluid transported by lymph vessels.

* Special techniques (fibrous tissue techniques) help to break down fibrotic areas, such as proliferated connective and scar tissue.

* Each session lasts about 45-90 minutes.
